# Chevrolet Cruze 2011–2015 · Maintenance schedule & cost to maintain

CarCaseFile editorial · filed 06-27-2026 · updated 10-07-2026

Scheduled service only, not the documented problems (those are on the [case file's problem list](https://carcasefile.com/vehicles/chevrolet-cruze-2011-2015/#own), with their own cost calculator). Every interval and cost range below is sourced, not estimated.

Where the manufacturer publishes separate normal and severe-condition schedules, this ledger defaults to the **severe** interval and says so. That's not us padding the numbers: a manufacturer's own severe-duty list usually describes ordinary driving, things like short trips, stop-and-go traffic, extended idling, dust or road salt. But the list is written per manufacturer and sometimes per model year, and some are far narrower than others, so each item's "why" text names what *this* manufacturer actually wrote and gives the normal-schedule number alongside it. Read the item, not this paragraph.

Cumulative cost

## What routine maintenance adds up to, by mileage

Running total of the independent-shop cost ranges below. Each bar is everything due by that point, added to everything before it.

Solid bar = low estimate, tint = high estimate. This is a routine-maintenance floor, not a total cost of ownership. Fuel, insurance, tires, and any of the documented problems above are separate. Items that recur more than once per interval under a severe-duty schedule (an air filter due every 5k, say) are counted here at one occurrence, not the full repeat total. The real cumulative spend for a high-mileage severe-duty driver runs higher than this chart shows.

## Every oil-life alert (at least once a year)

### Engine oil and filter (oil life system, no fixed factory mileage)

$71–$106 DIY-realistic

GM's oil life system sets this: change within 600 miles of CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON and at least once a year. GM's severe chart carries the same oil row as the normal one, so there is no shorter severe number. Gas engines: dexos-approved SAE 5W-30, 4.25 qt (1.8L: 4.76 qt in the 2011-2012 books). Diesel: dexos2 5W-30, 4.75 qt. GM books only.

## Every 7,500 mi (tire rotation)

### Tires: rotate every 7,500 miles

DIY-realistic

GM's books call for a tire rotation every 7,500 miles, at the same visit as its Required Services check. The Cruze is front-drive, so rotating on time is what lets a set wear evenly. Worn struts cup tires whatever the alignment, so check the struts before paying for new tires on a car with cupped tread.

### Wheel alignment

$256–$376 Shop job

GM sets no alignment mileage. Its book lists the signs: pulling, poor handling or unusual tire wear. Align after new tires or any strut or suspension work. Worn control-arm bushings let the alignment drift back out, so replace them first or the alignment money is wasted.

## 22,500 mi or 2 years (25,000 mi or 24 months on 2011)

### Cabin air filter

$186–$195 DIY-realistic

GM's 2013-2014 books: every 22,500 miles or two years on both the normal and severe charts, sooner in heavy traffic, poor air or dust. The 2011 book says 25,000 miles or 24 months. The 2012 book's charts carry no cabin filter row, but its parts list names the same filter, GM 13271191.

## 30,000 mi

### Fuel filter, 2.0L diesel only (2014-2015)

$267–$276 Shop job

GM's 2014 book: replace every 30,000 miles or two years, same on both charts. GM also recommends draining water from the filter at each oil change or when WATER IN FUEL - CONTACT SERVICE shows. The gas engines have no fuel filter row in any of the four books.

### Clutch fluid, manual transmission (severe-schedule default, 2014 book)

Shop job

GM's 2014 severe chart replaces clutch fluid every 30,000 miles, its normal chart at 150,000, both or 10 years. The 2013 book says 150,000 on both charts, and the 2011-2012 books have no clutch fluid row. The clutch draws DOT 3 from the brake fluid reservoir. Firestone's 2014 listing says 45,000, which is not GM's number.

## 45,000 mi (50,000 mi on 2011)

### Automatic transmission fluid (severe-schedule default)

$160–$188 Shop job

GM's severe chart: every 45,000 miles (50,000 in the 2011 book). Normal: 97,500 (100,000 in 2011), and the 2014 normal row covers the 1.4L and 1.8L only. GM's 2013-2014 severe list: mainly heavy city traffic in hot weather, hilly or mountainous roads, frequent towing, high-speed or competitive driving, or taxi, police or delivery use. DEXRON-VI.

### Manual transmission fluid (2014 book, severe schedule only)

Shop job

Only GM's 2014 book schedules it: every 45,000 miles on the severe chart, no row on the normal chart. The 2011-2013 books print no manual fluid change and say the level needs no checking unless there is a leak. Firestone's 2014 listing also shows 45,000.

### Engine air filter

$61–$73 DIY-realistic

GM: every 45,000 miles or four years on both the normal and severe charts (50,000 miles in the 2011 book), so there is no shorter severe number. GM also has it inspected every 7,500 miles, so a car on dusty roads gets it when the inspection says so. The 1.8L takes a different filter from the 1.4L and diesel.

## 60,000 mi (1.4L plugs, plus wear checks with no GM interval)

### Spark plugs, 1.4L turbo

$158–$198 DIY-realistic

GM's 2013-2014 books: 1.4L plugs every 60,000 miles on both charts, with the coil boots inspected. The 2011 book prints 100,000 and the 2012 book 97,500 for both engines, with no 1.4L split. It is the same engine, so 60,000 on a 2011-2012 car is our cautious reading, not GM's printed number for those years.

### Front brake pads

$316–$373 DIY-realistic

Wear-based. GM has the brake system inspected every 7,500 miles and prints no replacement mileage. GM's book lists chirping, grinding or squealing noises, or difficulty stopping, as signs of wear. Replace on the inspection's say-so, not by the odometer.

Parts for this job: Front brake pads.

### Shocks and struts

$433–$663 Shop job

No GM interval. GM's book lists the signs: steering wheel vibration, bounce or sway while braking, longer stopping distances, or uneven tire wear. Worn struts let the tires bounce and cup, so new tires on worn struts wear out early. Budget an alignment after the struts go in.

### CV axle boots (inspect), CV axle (replace if a boot has torn)

Shop job

Wear-based, no GM interval. GM has steering, suspension and chassis parts inspected every 7,500 miles. Axles commonly last 70,000 to 130,000 miles. Grease spattered around the wheel or suspension means a boot has torn, so have it checked before the joint runs dry.

### Control arm bushings

$171–$238 Shop job

Wear-based, no GM interval. They commonly wear out around 100,000 miles. A worn bushing throws off the alignment and wears the tread unevenly, so an alignment done on worn bushings will not hold. Replace the bushings first, then align.

### Motor mounts (inspect)

$248–$276 Shop job

Wear-based, no GM interval, and nothing Cruze-specific we could verify. A worn mount shows as a clunk on takeoff or an idle that is rough only in gear. Left alone, extra engine movement can crack the exhaust manifold, let a fan touch the radiator or damage CV joints, so the second repair costs more than the mount.

## 97,500 mi (100,000 mi on 2011)

### Timing belt, 1.8L only

$1,184–$1,694 Shop job

The 1.8L runs a timing belt. GM: replace at 97,500 miles on both charts (100,000 in the 2011 book), or 10 years per the 2012 and 2014 footnotes. The 2014 normal row adds the idler pulley and tensioner, and that book says a CHANGE TIMING BELT message shows when it is due. The 1.4L turbo has a timing chain and no belt row.

### Timing belt, tensioner, idler pulley and water pump, 2.0L diesel only (2014-2015)

Shop job

GM's 2014 book replaces the diesel's timing belt, tensioner, idler pulley and water pump together at 97,500 miles or 10 years, on both the normal and severe charts. Firestone's 2014 and 2015 listings show the timing belt at 97,500 too.

### Spark plugs, 1.8L

$158–$198 DIY-realistic

GM: every 97,500 miles on both charts (100,000 miles in the 2011 book), with the coil boots inspected. The timing belt falls due at the same mileage. The diesel has no spark plugs.

## 150,000 mi or 5 to 10 years, whichever comes first

### Coolant drain and fill (DEX-COOL)

$324–$393 DIY-realistic

GM: drain and fill at 150,000 miles or five years, whichever comes first, so at typical mileage the five years comes first. DEX-COOL 50/50 only. Capacity: 5.8 qt (1.4L), 6.9 qt (1.8L), 8.2 qt (diesel). A 1.4L that keeps losing coolant has a leak, which is a repair, not this service.

### Brake fluid (2013-2014 books)

$73–$107 Shop job

GM's 2013-2014 books: replace at 150,000 miles or 10 years, same on both charts, DOT 3. The 2011 and 2012 books print no brake fluid replacement. Firestone's 2014 listing says every 45,000 miles, which is not GM's number. Manual cars share this reservoir with the clutch, see the 30,000 mile clutch fluid item.

### Accessory drive belt (inspect)

$150–$213 DIY-realistic

GM: visual inspection at 150,000 miles or 10 years, replace if frayed, badly cracked or damaged. GM prints no replacement mileage. Cost shown is a replacement if the inspection fails it.

## 5 years (any mileage)

### Battery

$463–$646 DIY-realistic

GM prints no battery interval. AAA puts battery life at three to five years, closer to three in hot climates, and says to test it every year from year three. If the lights flicker or the car stalls, check the negative cable special coverage before buying a battery.
