# Ford Fusion 2006–2012 · Maintenance schedule & cost to maintain

CarCaseFile editorial · filed 08-02-2026 · updated 09-23-2026

Scheduled service only, not the documented problems (those are on the [case file's problem list](https://carcasefile.com/vehicles/ford-fusion-2006-2012/#own), with their own cost calculator). Every interval and cost range below is sourced, not estimated.

Where the manufacturer publishes separate normal and severe-condition schedules, this ledger defaults to the **severe** interval and says so. That's not us padding the numbers: a manufacturer's own severe-duty list usually describes ordinary driving, things like short trips, stop-and-go traffic, extended idling, dust or road salt. But the list is written per manufacturer and sometimes per model year, and some are far narrower than others, so each item's "why" text names what *this* manufacturer actually wrote and gives the normal-schedule number alongside it. Read the item, not this paragraph.

Cumulative cost

## What routine maintenance adds up to, by mileage

Running total of the independent-shop cost ranges below. Each bar is everything due by that point, added to everything before it.

Solid bar = low estimate, tint = high estimate. This is a routine-maintenance floor, not a total cost of ownership. Fuel, insurance, tires, and any of the documented problems above are separate. Items that recur more than once per interval under a severe-duty schedule (an air filter due every 5k, say) are counted here at one occurrence, not the full repeat total. The real cumulative spend for a high-mileage severe-duty driver runs higher than this chart shows.

## Every 3,000 to 5,000 mi (oil service, severe-schedule default)

### Engine oil + filter (severe-schedule default)

$128–$223 DIY-realistic

Ford's severe number changed by year. The 2006-2007 guides say 3,000 miles or 3 months (normal 5,000), the 2008-2010 guides 5,000 miles or 6 months (normal 7,500). 2011-2012 gas cars use the oil life monitor, capped at one year or 10,000, and 5,000 or 6 months on dusty roads. The 2010 Hybrid is 10,000 or 12 months, and 5,000 or 6 months under its special conditions.

On this generation

- Every Fusion book calls for 5W-20. Capacity with filter: 4.5 qt on the 2.3L, 5.3 qt on the 2.5L, 6.0 qt on the 3.0L, 5.5 qt on the 3.5L and 5.0 qt on the Hybrid. Ford lists filter FL-2017-B on the 2.3L, FL-910 (2010 books) then FL-910S (2011-2012) on the 2.5L and Hybrid, and FL-820-S (2006-2008) then FL-500-S (2009-2012) on the V6.
- On the 2.3L (2006-2009), Ford's books say to replace the filter cap O-ring at every filter change and the drain plug O-ring whenever that plug comes out. Reusing them can leak oil, so buy the O-rings with the filter.

### Tire rotation and tread check

$49–$72 DIY-realistic

Ford rotates at every oil service in these books, and every 5,000 miles on dusty roads or when towing in the 2008-2010 guides. On AWD cars (2007-2012) keep all four tires the same size. Ford warns that major size differences front to rear can make the AWD system stop working and fall back to front-wheel drive.

### Brake inspection, front pads on wear

$189–$259 DIY-realistic

The 2006-2010 guides inspect pads, rotors, lines and the parking brake every 15,000 miles, or every 5,000 on the idling schedule. From 2011 it happens at every oil change. No book gives a pad mileage, so replace on wear. The cost below is one axle of pads.

## 15,000 mi (2006-2010 gas) or 20,000 mi (2011-2012)

### Cabin air filter

$71–$88 DIY-realistic

The 2006-2010 guides replace it every 15,000 miles if equipped, and the 2006-2010 gas owner guides never mention one, so ask the shop to show you the filter. From 2011 Ford lists FP-67 every 20,000 miles, the Hybrid included. The 2010 Hybrid book gives no mileage, only replace as required (p318). The dusty and idling tables give no shorter number.

## 30,000 mi

### Automatic transmission fluid (gas cars, severe-schedule default)

$271–$521 Shop job

Ford's normal change is 150,000 miles. It drops to every 30,000 when the car runs primarily towing, idling long or at low speed, or on dusty roads (and off-road in the 2006-2010 guides). Occasional use does not count, in Ford's words. Fluid: FNR5 fluid in the 2.3L five-speed, Premium ATF in the Aisin six-speed, MERCON LV in the 6F35.

On this generation

- AWD cars (2007-2012): Ford's owner guides call the power transfer unit lubricated for life, checked or changed only for a leak, a repair, or after it sits in water. No special-conditions table in these books names it, so a routine PTU fluid change is beyond Ford's schedule.
- AWD rear differential: the owner guides fill it with non-synthetic 80W-90, and Ford's Exceptions page changes non-synthetic rear axle fluid every 3,000 miles or 3 months during long towing above 70F at wide-open throttle above 45 mph. Outside that use, no book prints a rear axle change for the Fusion.

### Engine air filter

$60–$85 DIY-realistic

Gas cars: every 30,000 miles in every 2006-2012 schedule. The dusty and idling tables print no shorter number, only replace as required, so a dirt-road driver should check it at each oil change. Ford lists FA-1683 (2.3L) and FA-1771 (3.0L) through 2008, then FA-1785 (2.3L and 2.5L), FA-1786 (3.0L) and FA-1884 (3.5L, 2010-2012). The Hybrid filter is built to last the life of the car.

On this generation

- Firestone's 2011 and 2012 Hybrid schedules list air cleaner replacements. Ford's Hybrid books say the filter is designed to last the life of the vehicle, and the 2012 table excludes the Fusion Hybrid from the air filter row, so a Hybrid owner can decline a routine air filter.

## 60,000 mi

### Spark plugs (severe-schedule default)

$175–$414 DIY-realistic

Ford's normal interval is 100,000 miles, 90,000 in the 2008-2010 guides. Every book, Hybrid included, drops plugs to 60,000 for extensive idling or long low-speed driving. That is the only condition that shortens it, so towing or dusty roads alone keep the normal number. Ford gaps the four-cylinders at 0.049 to 0.053 in.

On this generation

- The 3.0L V6 gap changed with the 2010 retune: 0.052 to 0.056 in in the 2006-2009 books, 0.045 to 0.049 in from 2010. Ford prints no plug part number in these books, so match the plug to your year, not to a 2006-2012 listing.

### Manual transmission fluid (manual cars only)

Shop job

Only the 2009-2012 schedules print a manual-gearbox row: change at 150,000 miles, every 60,000 when towing and every 50,000 on dusty roads. The 2006-2008 guides print no normal row and say as required when towing. Ford specifies 3.0 qt of 75W-90 GL-4. Manufacturer-only, no second source found.

## 100,000 mi (or 5 to 6 years)

### Engine coolant, first change

$223–$428 Shop job

First change: 5 years or 100,000 miles in the 2006 guide, 6 years or 100,000 in 2007, 6 years or 105,000 in the 2008-2010 gas guides, 6 years or 100,000 for 2011-2012 and the Hybrid. Then every 3 years or 50,000 (45,000 in 2008-2010). No special-conditions row exists. 2006-2009 cars take yellow Premium Gold, 2010-2012 Specialty Green.

On this generation

- The Hybrid has a second coolant loop for the motor and electronics. Ford changes it on the same clock as the engine coolant in the 2010 to 2012 Hybrid books, so a Hybrid coolant quote should name both.

### Accessory drive belt (inspect from here, replace by 150,000)

$138–$245 Shop job

Ford inspects the belt first at 100,000 miles (90,000 in the 2008-2010 guides, again at 120,000) and replaces it at 150,000 if it has not been replaced in the last 100,000. No special-conditions table shortens this.

## Every 3 years (not a Ford interval)

### Brake fluid

$110–$161 Shop job

No 2006-2012 Fusion schedule prints a brake fluid change. Recall 19S54 covers certain 2006-2010 cars (check the VIN) because the ABS valves can react with some brake fluids, and its remedy is a flush with DOT 4. A 3-year flush is our inference from that, not Ford's schedule. The books specify DOT 3.

### 12V battery

$187–$254 DIY-realistic

Plan on 3 to 5 years and load-test from year three. Ford's parts tables change by year: BXT-40R in 2006, BXL-96R-500 (2.3L) or -590 (3.0L) in 2007, BXT-96R on the 2.3L and BXT-40R on the 3.0L in 2008-2009, BXT-96-R in 2010, BXT-96R-500 in 2011-2012. The Hybrid's underhood 12V battery is BXT-67-R.
