# Ford Fusion 2013–2020 · Maintenance schedule & cost to maintain

CarCaseFile editorial · filed 06-27-2026 · updated 10-07-2026

Scheduled service only, not the documented problems (those are on the [case file's problem list](https://carcasefile.com/vehicles/ford-fusion-2013-2020/#own), with their own cost calculator). Every interval and cost range below is sourced, not estimated.

Where the manufacturer publishes separate normal and severe-condition schedules, this ledger defaults to the **severe** interval and says so. That's not us padding the numbers: a manufacturer's own severe-duty list usually describes ordinary driving, things like short trips, stop-and-go traffic, extended idling, dust or road salt. But the list is written per manufacturer and sometimes per model year, and some are far narrower than others, so each item's "why" text names what *this* manufacturer actually wrote and gives the normal-schedule number alongside it. Read the item, not this paragraph.

Cumulative cost

## What routine maintenance adds up to, by mileage

Running total of the independent-shop cost ranges below. Each bar is everything due by that point, added to everything before it.

Solid bar = low estimate, tint = high estimate. This is a routine-maintenance floor, not a total cost of ownership. Fuel, insurance, tires, and any of the documented problems above are separate. Items that recur more than once per interval under a severe-duty schedule (an air filter due every 5k, say) are counted here at one occurrence, not the full repeat total. The real cumulative spend for a high-mileage severe-duty driver runs higher than this chart shows.

either way, and a commission never changes what this page says.

## Every 5,000 mi (oil service, severe-schedule default)

### Engine oil + filter (severe-schedule default, oil-life monitor)

$121–$187 DIY-realistic

Gas cars use Ford's oil-life monitor, capped at one year or 10,000 miles. Ford's guide puts moderate to heavy towing, hills, long idling and hot or cold running at 5,000 to 7,499 miles, and maximum towing or extreme heat or cold at 3,000 to 4,999 (2018-2020 books: 5,000-7,500 and 3,000-5,000). Dusty roads get 5,000 miles or six months. Hybrid: 12 months or 10,000. Energi: up to 2 years or 20,000.

On this generation

- Grade and capacity change by engine in Ford's books. The 1.5L and 1.6L take 4.3 qt of 5W-20, the 2.5L 5.7 qt of 5W-20, the 2.0L EcoBoost 5.7 qt of 5W-30, the 2.7L 6.0 qt of 5W-30, and the hybrid 4.5 qt. The hybrid moved from 5W-20 (2013) to 0W-20 in the 2016 to 2020 hybrid books, so check the cap before a shop pours the gas-car grade.

### Tire rotation and tread check

$49–$72 DIY-realistic

Ford rotates the tires and measures tread depth at every oil change on the gas cars, and every 5,000 miles on dusty or unpaved roads. On AWD cars keep all four tires the same size. Ford warns that mismatched sizes front to rear can make the AWD system quit and fall back to front-wheel drive, or damage it.

### Brake inspection, front pads on wear

$259–$321 DIY-realistic

Ford inspects the pads, rotors, hoses and parking brake at every oil change and prints no replacement mileage for pads, so replace them when the inspection says so. The cost below is one axle of pads.

## 20,000 mi

### Cabin air filter

$74–$97 DIY-realistic

Ford replaces it every 20,000 miles in every 2013 to 2020 book, gas and hybrid. The long-idling and dusty-road tables give no shorter number, only an instruction to inspect often and service as required, so a dirt-road driver should look at it at each oil change. Ford lists FP-71 through the 2019 first printings, gas and hybrid, and FP-71A in the 2019 gas second printing and the 2020 books.

## 30,000 mi

### Automatic transmission fluid (gas cars, severe-schedule default)

$602–$682 Shop job

Ford's normal number is 150,000 miles. Its special-conditions tables cut that to every 30,000 for towing or a car-top carrier, long idling or low-speed driving, and dusty roads. Ford's test: drive primarily in any one of those and you are on the table, occasionally and you are not. Use MERCON LV only. The hybrid eCVT stays at 150,000 with no severe row.

On this generation

- AWD cars: none of the eight 2013 to 2020 gas books prints a PTU or rear axle fluid change in any special-conditions table. The 2017 to 2020 books say the PTU and rear axle need no scheduled service unless the car saw long periods of extreme or severe duty or both were submerged, so a shop quoting a routine PTU flush is going past Ford's book.

### Engine air filter

$67–$85 DIY-realistic

Ford replaces it every 30,000 miles. The long-idling and dusty-road tables print no number, only inspect often and service as required, so no shorter factory interval exists. Ford lists FA-1912 for every gas engine including the 2.7L (FA-1912A in the 2019 and 2020 books), and FA-1911 for the hybrid, so the hybrid takes a different filter.

## 60,000 mi

### Spark plugs (severe-schedule default)

$158–$233 DIY-realistic

Ford's normal interval is 100,000 miles. Every 2013 to 2020 book, gas and hybrid, drops plugs to 60,000 for long idling or low-speed driving, and the 2014 to 2020 gas books add towing. Plugs differ by engine and year: SP-530 on the 2.5L, on the 2.0L SP-527 in the 2013 book, SP-537 in 2014-2018 and SP-550 in the 2019 (second printing) and 2020 books, SP-539 on the 1.5L, SP-532 on the 1.6L.

On this generation

- On the 2.7L Fusion Sport, Ford lists SP-542 in the 2017 and 2018 books and SP-545 in the 2019 and 2020 books, gapped 0.028 to 0.031 in. SP-545 is the 2.7L plug in those books, not the 2.5L plug, so buy by engine and year rather than by the number alone.

### Manual transmission fluid (2013-2014 six-speed manual only)

Shop job

Only Ford's 2014 book prints a manual-gearbox row: change it at 150,000 miles, every 60,000 when towing and every 50,000 on dusty roads. The 2013 book prints no manual-fluid row at all, and the manual left the lineup after 2014 per Ford's transmission code tables. Treat 50,000 to 60,000 as the severe number. Manufacturer-only, no second source found.

## 100,000 mi (or 6 years, 2013-2019 cars)

### Engine coolant, first change (2013-2019 cars)

$427–$648 Shop job

The 2013 to 2019 books, gas and hybrid, change coolant first at six years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, then every three years or 50,000 miles. No special-conditions table lists coolant, so there is no shorter factory number. Refill with Motorcraft Orange (WSS-M97B44-D2). The 2020 car is different, see the 200,000-mile entry.

On this generation

- The 2017 Hybrid/Energi book misprints the repeat interval for the full hybrid as every three years or 5,000 miles (8,000 km). The 2016 and 2018 hybrid books and every gas book print 50,000 there, so a 2017 hybrid owner can ignore the 5,000.

### Accessory drive belt (inspect from here, replace by 150,000)

$180–$261 Shop job

Ford's first belt inspection is at 100,000 miles, then at every other oil change until the belt is replaced. Ford replaces it at 150,000 miles if it has not been replaced in the previous 100,000. No special-conditions table shortens this.

## 150,000 mi

### Timing belt (1.6L and 1.5L EcoBoost only)

$804–$1,106 Shop job

Ford replaces the timing belt at 150,000 miles and names only the 1.6L (2013 and 2014 books) and the 1.5L (2016 to 2020 books). The 2014 and 2015 books print no belt row for the 1.5L, so 1.5L owners should follow the later books. The 2.0L, 2.5L, 2.7L and hybrid carry no belt row. A belt quote on those engines is for a part Ford's schedule never names.

## 200,000 mi (or 10 years, 2020 cars)

### Engine coolant, first change (2020 cars only)

$545–$648 Shop job

Ford's 2020 books, gas and hybrid, move the first coolant change to 10 years or 200,000 miles, then every five years or 100,000, and switch to Motorcraft Yellow (WSS-M97B57-A2). The 2019 book still says six years or 100,000 with Orange. Firestone's 2020 page still shows the 100,000 change, which does not match Ford's 2020 book. Refill a 2020 with Yellow.

## Every 3 years (any mileage)

### Brake fluid

$110–$161 Shop job

Only the 2020 books print a brake-fluid interval: every 3 years on the gas car and the Energi. The 2020 full-hybrid table and every 2013 to 2019 schedule print none. For a 2013 to 2019 car, Ford's later 3-year rule is the closest factory guidance, inferred, not printed for your year. Ford specifies DOT 4 LV fluid.
