Check 01

On 2015–2016: sit at idle in gear with A/C on and feel for vibration through the seat, then drive at light throttle between roughly 1,000–2,200 rpm (city speeds and 40–50 mph). Judder or seat-buzz here is the known CVT-era complaint. Walk away or price it in.

Check 02

Ask whether TSB 15-046 (vibration) work was done on a 2015: new engine/transmission mounts, radiator cushions, and the PCM software update. A Honda dealer can check service history by VIN.

Check 03

Cold-start the engine yourself. A brief but loud rattle/grind for a second or two on startup points to the VTC actuator, known on 2012–2014 K24s.

Check 04

Ask if the car has ever needed jump starts after sitting a few days. 2012–2013 cars have documented parasitic-drain/battery-management issues; check the battery date code and test it.

Check 05

On AWD cars, do slow tight-radius turns in a parking lot. Groaning, shuddering, or binding from the rear points to overdue rear-differential (dual pump) fluid. Cheap fix, but it tells you maintenance was skipped.

Check 06

On a 2014, test acceleration from a dead stop and a rolling merge. Noticeable hesitation before the car responds matches the documented complaint pattern for that year.

Check 07

Run the VIN at nhtsa.gov for open recalls. Some cars in this span were caught by Takata airbag-inflator campaigns and later fuel-pump recall expansions.
