# Hyundai Santa Fe 2013–2018 · Maintenance schedule & cost to maintain

CarCaseFile editorial · filed 06-27-2026 · updated 09-23-2026

Scheduled service only, not the documented problems (those are on the [case file's problem list](https://carcasefile.com/vehicles/hyundai-santa-fe-2013-2018/#own), with their own cost calculator). Every interval and cost range below is sourced, not estimated.

Where the manufacturer publishes separate normal and severe-condition schedules, this ledger defaults to the **severe** interval and says so. That's not us padding the numbers: a manufacturer's own severe-duty list usually describes ordinary driving, things like short trips, stop-and-go traffic, extended idling, dust or road salt. But the list is written per manufacturer and sometimes per model year, and some are far narrower than others, so each item's "why" text names what *this* manufacturer actually wrote and gives the normal-schedule number alongside it. Read the item, not this paragraph.

Cumulative cost

## What routine maintenance adds up to, by mileage

Running total of the independent-shop cost ranges below. Each bar is everything due by that point, added to everything before it.

Solid bar = low estimate, tint = high estimate. This is a routine-maintenance floor, not a total cost of ownership. Fuel, insurance, tires, and any of the documented problems above are separate. Items that recur more than once per interval under a severe-duty schedule (an air filter due every 5k, say) are counted here at one occurrence, not the full repeat total. The real cumulative spend for a high-mileage severe-duty driver runs higher than this chart shows.

## 3,000 mi

### Engine oil and filter, 2.0T Sport (severe-schedule default: 3,000 mi or 3 months)

$85–$115 DIY-realistic

Hyundai's severe table sets 3,000 mi or 3 months for the 2.0T, if any one severe condition applies. Normal: the 2014 and 2017 books say 3,000 mi first, then every 5,000 mi or 6 months. The 2018 book says every 6,000 mi or 6 months. 5.28 qt (2014 book), 5.07 qt (2017-2018). No 2013, 2015 or 2016 Sport book was found.

On this generation

- Keep every oil receipt. Hyundai's book ties the warranty to receipts, and the Theta settlement's lifetime short-block warranty can ask for maintenance records when Hyundai suspects neglect. On a 2.0T or 2.4 Sport those receipts are what keeps a failed engine covered.

## 3,750 mi

### Engine oil and filter, 2.4 Sport and 3.3 V6 (severe-schedule default: 3,750 mi or 6 months)

$85–$115 DIY-realistic

Hyundai sets 7,500 mi or 12 months, and 3,750 mi or 6 months if ANY one severe condition applies: trips under 5 miles, idling, dusty or salted roads, traffic above 90F, hills, towing or a roof rack, stop-and-go. V6: 6.02 qt (2014-2018 books). 2.4: 5.28 qt (2014), 5.07 qt (2017-2018). Hyundai recommends 5W-30.

## 7,500 mi

### Tire rotation (every 7,500 mi, all books read)

$49–$72 DIY-realistic

Rotate tire sits at every 7,500-mile row in all eight books read. On AWD cars Hyundai says to fit four tires of the same size and type, because torque always goes to all four wheels. Regular rotation keeps the four wearing alike.

### 12V battery (inspected every 7,500 mi, replace on a failed test)

$110–$289 DIY-realistic

Hyundai inspects battery condition at every 7,500-mile service and prints no replacement interval. RepairPal rows run $141-$158 for the 2013-2018 Santa Fe and $110-$289 for the 2013-2018 Sport. Group 124R per the parts card.
