# Toyota Tundra 2007–2021 · Maintenance schedule & cost to maintain

The CarCaseFile editorial team · filed 07-16-2026 · updated 09-23-2026

Scheduled service only, not the documented problems (those are on the [case file's problem list](https://carcasefile.com/vehicles/toyota-tundra-2007-2021/#own), with their own cost calculator). Every interval and cost range below is sourced, not estimated.

Where the manufacturer publishes separate normal and severe-condition schedules, this ledger defaults to the **severe** interval and says so. That's not us padding the numbers: a manufacturer's own severe-duty list usually describes ordinary driving, things like short trips, stop-and-go traffic, extended idling, dust or road salt. But the list is written per manufacturer and sometimes per model year, and some are far narrower than others, so each item's "why" text names what *this* manufacturer actually wrote and gives the normal-schedule number alongside it. Read the item, not this paragraph.

Cumulative cost

## What routine maintenance adds up to, by mileage

Running total of the independent-shop cost ranges below. Each bar is everything due by that point, added to everything before it.

Solid bar = low estimate, tint = high estimate. This is a routine-maintenance floor, not a total cost of ownership. Fuel, insurance, tires, and any of the documented problems above are separate. Items that recur more than once per interval under a severe-duty schedule (an air filter due every 5k, say) are counted here at one occurrence, not the full repeat total. The real cumulative spend for a high-mileage severe-duty driver runs higher than this chart shows.

## 5,000 mi or 6 months

### Engine oil and filter (severe-schedule default 5,000 mi)

$212–$281 DIY-realistic

The 2012-2021 guides change 0W-20 oil every 10,000 miles or 12 months, and every 5,000 miles or 6 months if most of your driving is dirt or dusty roads, towing or heavy loads, trips under 5 miles below 32°F, or long idling. One of those is enough if it is most of your driving. The 2007-2009 guides use 5,000 miles for every engine. Plan on 5,000.

On this generation

- The 2010 guide keeps the 5.7L and the V6 on a 5,000-mile schedule for non-synthetic oil and gives the 10,000-mile 0W-20 schedule to the 4.6L only. The 2011 guide keeps the 5.7L at 5,000. Both say a truck not certified for 0W-20 stays at 5,000 miles even with 0W-20 in it.
- Flex-fuel trucks get their own guide for 2010-2019, with normal oil changes at 5,000 miles. If E85 is more than half your fuel, the 2009 guide and the FFV guides move the oil to every 2,500 miles or 3 months. The 2009-2011 books change only the oil at the in-between stops, the 2012-2019 FFV books the filter too. We found no FFV guide for 2020 or 2021.
- The owner's manual printed as 2007 TUNDRA from Jul. '07 Prod. lists the 5.7L at 7.4 qt with the filter. The later Tundra manuals we read (codes OM34495U, OM34510U, OM34569U and OM34594U) list 7.9 qt with the filter. Fill to the dipstick and check the spec page in your own manual.

### Tire rotation

$49–$72 DIY-realistic

All 15 years of guides, 2007 through 2021, rotate the tires at every 5,000-mile service, on every schedule. RepairPal's 2007-2012 and 2014-2021 rows were read. The 2013 row was not read.

### Propeller shaft grease and bolt re-torque, 4WD (severe-schedule default 5,000 mi)

Shop job

The 2007-2017 guides grease the 4WD propeller shaft and re-torque its bolt every 15,000 miles, and every 5,000 miles if you mostly drive dirt or dusty roads or tow. A footnote counts roads treated with road salt. The 2018-2021 guides drop the grease and keep only the bolt re-torque, on the same schedule.

## 15,000 mi

### Front differential oil, 4WD (severe-schedule default: replace every 15,000 mi when towing)

$205–$287 Shop job

Every guide, 2007-2021, replaces the front differential oil on 4WD trucks every 15,000 miles if you mostly tow, and several guides add a car-top carrier or heavy loading to that condition. Otherwise the guides only inspect it every 15,000 miles. RepairPal's 2007-2021 rows for a drive axle drain and refill run $205 to $287.

### Front drive shaft (CV) boots, 4WD (inspect)

Shop job

Every guide inspects the 4WD front drive shaft boots every 15,000 miles, and every 5,000 miles if you mostly drive dirt or dusty roads. AutoNation says grease splattered around the tire or suspension means a boot has torn, and puts new CV axle life at 70,000 to 130,000 miles.

## 30,000 mi

### Engine air filter

$55–$67 DIY-realistic

Every guide, 2007-2021, replaces the engine air filter every 30,000 miles. On dirt or dusty roads the guides add an inspection at the 5,000-mile stops, not a shorter replacement mileage, so replace it early when that inspection finds it dirty. RepairPal's rows run $55 to $67, except a 2014 row at $89 to $100 that we left out.

### Cabin air filter

$67–$96 DIY-realistic

Every guide replaces the cabin filter every 30,000 miles. The 2008-2013 guides also clean it at 15,000, 45,000, 75,000 and 105,000 miles, and the 2017-2021 guides inspect it at those stops. Toyota's chart lists 87139-07010 for 2007-2013 and 87139-07020 for 2014-2021. RepairPal's 2010-2013 rows ($157 to $174) are about double the others, so we left them out.

### Rear differential oil (severe-schedule default: replace every 30,000 mi when towing)

$205–$287 Shop job

The 2008-2021 guides replace the rear differential oil every 30,000 miles if you mostly tow. The 2007 guide does it every 15,000. The 2007 manual specs Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or an equivalent. RepairPal's 2007-2021 drive axle rows run $205 to $287.

### Transfer case oil, 4WD (severe-schedule default: replace every 30,000 mi)

Shop job

Every guide replaces the transfer case oil every 30,000 miles if you mostly tow. The 2010 gas guide and every 2011-2021 guide add dirt or dusty roads as a trigger. The 2007 manual specs gear oil API GL-4 or GL-5, SAE 75W-90. We read no RepairPal transfer case estimate for the Tundra, so we give no price.

### Spark plugs, 4.0L V6 (1GR-FE), 2007-2010 guides

$204–$325 Shop job

The 2007-2010 guides replace the V6 plugs every 30,000 miles. The 2007 manual and manual OM34495U spec a Denso K20HR-U11 for the V6, and Toyota's plug chart lists it for 2007-2010. The 2011 guide moves the V6 to 120,000 miles, and the chart lists iridium SK20HR11 for 2011-2013 V6 trucks. RepairPal's rows do not split by engine.

### Brake pads and rotors (measured every 30,000 mi, replace on wear)

$262–$345 DIY-realistic

Every guide measures pad and rotor thickness and rotor runout every 30,000 miles and looks at the linings at the other 5,000-mile stops. None prints a replacement mileage. Toyota's pad chart lists front kit 04465-0C020 for trucks built 11/2006 to 08/2017 and 04465-02440 for trucks built from 08/2017.

## 60,000 mi

### Automatic transmission fluid (severe-schedule default 60,000 mi)

$172–$291 Shop job

Every guide replaces the automatic transmission fluid every 60,000 miles only if you mostly tow, and several guides add a car-top carrier or heavy loading. Otherwise the guides only check it at the 30,000-mile services. The 2007 manual says to use Toyota Genuine ATF WS. A truck that tows should plan on 60,000.

### Drive belt (inspect)

$163–$365 DIY-realistic

Every guide inspects the drive belt first at 60,000 miles, then every 15,000 miles. None prints a replacement mileage, so the belt is replaced when that inspection finds cracks, wear or oil on it. RepairPal's 2007-2021 rows run $163 to $365.

### Valve clearance, 4.7L V8 and 4.0L V6 (inspect)

Shop job

The 2007-2009 guides check valve clearance on the 4.7L (2UZ-FE) and the 4.0L V6 at 60,000 and 120,000 miles, by listening for tappet noise and engine vibration. The 2010 guides limit it to the V6. The 2011-2021 guides do not print the item. The 2007 manual lists the 5.7L's valve clearance as automatic adjustment.

### Shocks and struts

$611–$971 Shop job

No Toyota interval. Monroe says worn shocks let the tire bounce, which cups the tread, so check them before buying tires. RepairPal's 2007-2021 rows run $611 to $971.

### Wheel alignment (check, no factory mileage)

$159–$286 Shop job

Not a Toyota schedule item in any guide. Check it when the tires wear unevenly. AutoNation says a worn control-arm bushing disrupts alignment and causes irregular tread wear, so check the bushings before paying for an alignment that will not hold.

### Control arm bushings

$292–$820 Shop job

Wear-based, no Toyota interval. AutoNation puts typical wear-out around 100,000 miles and says a worn bushing disrupts alignment. RepairPal's rows fall by year: $475 to $820 for 2007, $357 to $707 for 2008-2013, $292 to $399 for 2014-2021.

### Tires (replace as a matched set)

Shop job

Not a Toyota interval item. The 2007 manual says that on 4WD trucks all the tires must be the same brand and have the same tread patterns. Manual OM34594U says not to mix remarkably different treadwear and that mixing can damage parts of the drive train. The 5,000-mile rotation keeps the four even.

## 90,000 mi or 108 months

### Timing belt, 4.7L V8 (2UZ-FE) only

Shop job

The 2007-2009 guides replace the 4.7L's timing belt every 90,000 miles or 108 months. The 2010-2021 guides print no timing belt service. We read no RepairPal Tundra timing belt row for 2007-2021, so we give no price.

## 100,000 mi or 120 months

### Engine coolant

$237–$473 Shop job

Every guide, 2007-2021, first replaces the coolant at 100,000 miles or 120 months, then every 50,000 miles or 60 months. The 2007 manual calls for Toyota Super Long Life Coolant or an equivalent non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate coolant. RepairPal's 2007-2021 rows run $237 to $473.

### Engine mounts (inspect)

$1,496–$2,111 Shop job

No Toyota interval, and we have not confirmed a mount weak point specific to this generation. Signs: a clunk shifting into drive or reverse, the engine moving under throttle. A failed mount lets the engine move and can break exhaust flex pipes, hoses, wiring or CV axles. RepairPal's 2008-2021 rows run $1,496 to $2,111. Its 2007 row reads $385 to $413, far off the rest, so we left it out.

## 120,000 mi

### Spark plugs, V8, and the V6 (2011-2014)

$204–$432 Shop job

Every guide replaces the V8 plugs at 120,000 miles. In the 2011-2021 guides, plugs appear only at 120,000, V6 included, and Toyota's charts list a V6 only through 2014. Toyota's plug chart and the 2007 manual list iridium Denso SK20HR11 for the 5.7L and 4.6L and SK20R11 for the 4.7L. RepairPal's 2007-2021 rows run $204 to $432.

## 5 years (any mileage)

### 12V battery

$247–$264 DIY-realistic

A calendar item. AAA puts average battery life at 3 to 5 years and says testing matters from the three-year mark, so load-test from year 3 and replace by year 5 at any mileage. Toyota's battery chart lists group 24F for 2014-2021 trucks without the cold-area package and 27F with it, and 27F for several 2010-2013 model codes. Match the group and cold-cranking amps.

On this generation

- RepairPal's 2011-2016 rows read $247 to $264. Its 2009-2010 rows read $1,025 to $1,042, which is not a 12V battery price, so we did not use them.
