GMC Acadia 2017–2023 · Maintenance schedule & cost to maintain

CarCaseFile editorial · filed 07-03-2026 · updated 09-23-2026

Scheduled service only, not the documented problems (those are on the case file's problem list, with their own cost calculator). Every interval and cost range below is sourced, not estimated.

Where the manufacturer publishes separate normal and severe-condition schedules, this ledger defaults to the severe interval and says so. That's not us padding the numbers: a manufacturer's own severe-duty list usually describes ordinary driving, things like short trips, stop-and-go traffic, extended idling, dust or road salt. But the list is written per manufacturer and sometimes per model year, and some are far narrower than others, so each item's "why" text names what this manufacturer actually wrote and gives the normal-schedule number alongside it. Read the item, not this paragraph.

Enter your mileage. We'll check it against this car's full schedule below.

Cumulative cost

What routine maintenance adds up to, by mileage

Running total of the independent-shop cost ranges below. Each bar is everything due by that point, added to everything before it.

Every oil-life alert $83–$135 Every 7,500 mi $254–$386 22,500 mi $360–$515 45,000 mi $683–$911 60,000 mi $2,584–$5,783 75,000 mi $2,764–$6,103 97,500 mi $2,945–$6,575 150,000 mi or 10 years $3,022–$6,822 5 years $3,761–$8,110

Solid bar = low estimate, tint = high estimate. This is a routine-maintenance floor, not a total cost of ownership. Fuel, insurance, tires, and any of the documented problems above are separate. Items that recur more than once per interval under a severe-duty schedule (an air filter due every 5k, say) are counted here at one occurrence, not the full repeat total. The real cumulative spend for a high-mileage severe-duty driver runs higher than this chart shows.

Every oil-life alert (at least once a year)

  • Engine oil and filter (oil life system, no fixed factory mileage)

    $83–$135 DIY-realistic

GM's oil life system sets this: change within 600 miles of CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON, at least once a year. No separate severe oil number, and the 2023 book lists trips of 4 miles or less as severe use. dexos1. 2.5L: 5W-20 or 0W-20 in the 2017-2018 books, 0W-20 from 2019, 5.0 qt FWD, 6.0 qt AWD (2017-2020 books). 2.0T: 0W-20, 5.3 qt. 3.6L: 5W-30, 6.0 qt.

Every 7,500 mi (tire rotation)

  • Tire rotation

    $49–$72 DIY-realistic

GM calls for a rotation every 7,500 miles on both schedules in every book from 2017 to 2023. GM recommends replacing tires as a set of four, and if you replace only two, the new pair goes on the rear axle. GM also says replace tires after six years regardless of tread. If uneven wear continues after a rotation, GM says check the alignment.

  • Wheel alignment

    $122–$179 Shop job

Not a GM mileage item. GM ties it to symptoms: pulling, poor handling or unusual tire wear. Get one with every new set of tires and after strut, bushing or steering work, or the new parts wear the tires unevenly. Worn bushings are the usual reason an alignment will not hold, see the 60,000-mile items.

22,500 mi

45,000 mi

  • Automatic transmission fluid (severe-schedule default)

    $195–$246 Shop job

GM's severe chart changes it at 45,000, 90,000 and 135,000 miles in every book from 2017 to 2023. The normal chart has no change. GM's severe test: mainly heavy city traffic in hot weather, mainly hills or mountains, frequent towing, high speed driving, or taxi, police or delivery use. None of those? Normal applies. DEXRON-VI in every book.

    On this generation

    • Firestone's schedule pages for every Acadia year from 2017 to 2023 add a transmission fluid change at 97,500 miles. GM's charts print no such mark, only 45,000, 90,000 and 135,000 on the severe chart. Question a 97,500-mile transmission service quote.
  • Engine air filter (fixed interval 2017-2019, dash monitor from 2021)

    $128–$150 DIY-realistic

2017-2019 books: 45,000 miles or four years on both charts, so no separate severe number. In dust, GM says inspect it at every oil change. 2020 book: that row applies only to cars without the engine air filter life system. 2021-2023: no mileage, replace when the dash asks and reset the system after. The 2017-2019 V6 filter differs from the four-cylinder one.

60,000 mi

  • Spark plugs (2.0L turbo only, 2020-2023)

    $181–$472 DIY-realistic

GM marks the 2.0T plugs at 60,000 and 120,000 miles on both charts in the 2020-2022 books, and the 2023 book says every 60,000, so there is no separate severe number. ACDelco 41-103-IP. GM's gap changed: 0.030-0.035 in in the 2020 book, 0.026-0.030 in from 2021. The gaps are preset and GM says not to re-gap them.

  • Front brake pads

    $304–$393 DIY-realistic

Wear-based, no GM mileage. GM's 7,500-mile list includes a brake system inspection, and GM names chirping, grinding, squealing or longer stops as signs of wear. RepairPal's rows run a little lower for 2021-2023 than for 2017-2020.

  • Shocks and struts

    $671–$1,521 Shop job

No GM interval. GM's signs of wear: steering wheel vibration, bounce or sway while braking, longer stops, uneven tire wear. Monroe says worn struts let the tire bounce off the road and cup the tread, so replace worn struts before new tires, not after. Budget an alignment right after. RepairPal's rows vary a lot by year.

  • CV axle boots (inspect), CV axle (replace if a boot has torn)

    $230–$1,400 Shop job

No GM interval, but GM's 7,500-mile list includes checking halfshafts for cracked or missing boots. Axles typically last 70,000 to 130,000 miles. A torn boot throws grease around the wheel and lets dirt into the joint. The cost is a generic range, RepairPal has no Acadia rows for this job.

  • Control arm bushings

    $200–$420 Shop job

No GM interval, typically around 100,000 miles. A worn bushing lets the wheel shift, so an alignment will not hold and the tires wear unevenly. If an alignment does not hold, check these first. The cost is a generic range, RepairPal shows no rows for these model years.

  • Motor mounts (inspect)

    $315–$666 Shop job

No GM interval, and we have not confirmed a mount weak point specific to this generation. Signs: a clunk shifting into drive or reverse, or vibration at idle. A failed mount lets the engine move, which can break an exhaust flex pipe and damage hoses, wiring and CV axles. Replace it before it takes those with it.

75,000 mi (AWD)

  • Rear axle fluid, AWD (severe-schedule default)

    $180–$320 Shop job

2020-2023 books: 75,000 and 150,000 miles on the severe chart, 150,000 on the normal chart. The 2017 book marks 45,000, 90,000 and 135,000 on both charts, only for a positraction rear axle. The 2018 and 2019 charts have no rear axle row. Every book says the AWD transfer case needs no service unless it leaks or makes noise. The cost is a generic range.

    On this generation

    • A transfer case fluid service is not on GM's schedule for this Acadia. Every GM book from 2017 to 2023 says it needs none under normal driving unless it leaks or makes noise, and Firestone's 2020-2023 pages list only the rear axle fluid. Ask what a quoted transfer case service is fixing.

97,500 mi

  • Spark plugs (2.5L and 3.6L)

    $181–$472 DIY-realistic

GM marks the 2.5L and 3.6L plugs at 97,500 miles on both charts in every book that lists them, so there is no separate severe number. 2.5L: ACDelco 41-115, GM 12627160. 3.6L: ACDelco 41-130, GM 12646780. RepairPal's rows are not split by engine, so the cost is its range for these years.

Sources: GMC (2017 manual), GMC (2021 manual), GMC (2023 manual), Firestone (2019 schedule), RepairPal

150,000 mi or 10 years

  • Accessory drive belt (inspect)

    $77–$247 DIY-realistic

GM's 2017-2022 books call for a visual inspection, not a replacement, at 150,000 miles or 10 years, and say replace it if frayed, cracked or damaged. Both charts carry the same row. The 2023 book has no belt row, only a belt check in the dealer multi-point inspection. GM says a squeak is a sign too. The cost shown is a replacement.

5 years (any mileage)

  • Coolant drain and fill (DEX-COOL)

    $497–$629 Shop job

GM marks 150,000 miles or five years on both charts in the 2017-2022 books, and 150,000 or six years in the 2023 book, so for most owners the calendar comes first. No separate severe number. DEX-COOL only, 50/50 with clean drinkable water.

  • Brake fluid

    $122–$179 Shop job

GM's rule is every five years with no mileage attached, and the chart row carries no mark on either schedule, so there is no separate severe number. DOT 3 in the 2017-2021 books, DOT 4 in the 2022 and 2023 books. Firestone's schedule pages leave brake fluid off, so ask for it.

  • Battery (AGM on stop/start cars)

    $120–$480 DIY-realistic

Calendar item. Load-test from year three, plan to replace by year five. GM's 2018-2019 books say the 2.5L stop/start cars have an AGM battery, and from 2020 every book says the car has one. GM warns a standard battery will not last as long. The 2017 book does not mention AGM. Generic AGM cost, RepairPal has no Acadia battery rows.
