Hyundai Santa Fe 2024–2026 · Pre-purchase checklist

Bring this to the inspection. Every check below is specific to this generation's documented failure modes — not generic used-car advice.

  1. Check 01

Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup before anything else. This generation logged eight-plus recalls in its first two years, and several notification waves landed in 2026 — an open recall on a used example is common, not rare.

  2. Check 02

On a 2024–2025 2.5T: confirm rollaway recall 24V-529 (Hyundai 263) shows completed, then listen for clunks from the parking pawl when shifting into and out of Park on a slope.

  3. Check 03

Creep-test any 2.5T in a parking lot and stop-and-go traffic. Hesitation off the line and jerky low-speed engagement are inherent dual-clutch manners — decide before you buy, because no software update fully removes them.

  4. Check 04

    Confirm starter-motor recall 25V-659 (Hyundai 285) is closed on 2024–2025 gas cars — the fix is a five-minute terminal-cover reinstall, but it's a fire-risk item.

  5. Check 05

Cycle the backup camera a dozen times during the test drive. A blank or intermittent display points to the 25V-808 camera-installation recall (2024–2025, includes hybrids).

  6. Check 06

Ask specifically about dead-battery events, jump starts, and battery replacements, and pull the service history for them. 12-volt drain complaints are the biggest non-recall pattern on early cars, and dealers often return 'no fault found.'

  7. Check 07

On a 2025–2026: check whether the VIN is one of the 29 vehicles in con-rod-bolt recall 25V-549, and on any cold start listen for deep lower-end knock with the oil-pressure light.

  8. Check 08

Check the front seat-belt anchor recall (26V-218) — owner letters only started going out June 2026, so many cars will still show it open.

Walk-away signals

2024 until every recall is verified closed — especially April–July 2024 builds covered by the rollaway recall (24V-529)
