    The single most consequential item on this generation, given the T32 Rogue's well-documented CVT failure history (see Common Problems). Nissan's own guidance splits CVT fluid service into a roughly 60,000-mile normal interval and a 30,000-mile/24-month severe interval — default to the severe number, since stop-and-go traffic and short trips both qualify for most daily drivers. The Rogue's factory service manual also calls out a narrower towing/rough-road condition separately: inspect for fluid deterioration every 60,000 miles at a dealer and change if needed, or change outright every 60,000 miles if that inspection isn't done. Given how many T32 Rogues have needed a $3,500–$5,000 transmission, most independent CVT specialists recommend not stretching past 30,000 miles regardless of which official label technically applies to you — this is NOT a genuine 'lifetime fluid,' whatever older marketing implied.     Not a manufacturer schedule item, but a real recurring cost: a set of four mid-range all-season tires sized for this generation (commonly 225/65R17 or 225/60R18 depending on trim) typically needs replacing in this mileage window for a family-driven CUV. Two things matter beyond just buying tires. First, this is a commuter/family CUV, not a truck or off-roader — an all-terrain or aggressive tire has no upside here, only shorter tread life and worse wet/wintry grip. Second, on AWD trims specifically, all four tires need to stay within a tight tread-depth tolerance (roughly 3/32 in) of each other; replacing only one or two lets a smaller-circumference tire spin at a different speed than the others, which the AWD system can read as a fault and which overworks the transfer case over time — replace AWD tires as a full set, not in pairs, and get the alignment checked right after (see the 15,000-mile bucket above) so the new tires wear evenly instead of eating the money just spent on them.

    Wear-based, no fixed Nissan mileage — figure roughly 50,000–100,000 miles depending on roads and driving style. Two generation-specific things to check before blaming worn struts for every clunk: Nissan TSB NTB18-083 (2014–2019 Rogue, and 2017–2019 Hybrid, built before Sept. 2018) covers a front-suspension squeak/creak in cold weather that's actually a worn rubber 'bound bumper' inside the strut, not the strut itself — a cheap targeted fix, not a full strut swap. Separately, TSB NTB15-062A covers a popping noise when turning on 2014–2016 US-built Rogues (VIN starting with '5'), caused by the front coil springs and strut mount bearings together. When struts genuinely are worn, the cost isn't just the part: worn struts let the tire bounce instead of staying planted, which shows up as cupped, uneven tire wear independent of anything an alignment can fix — a tire problem that looks like an alignment problem can actually be a strut problem.

Catch a tear early and it's a boot-only fix; miss it and the joint itself wears from contamination, turning it into a full axle replacement. The interaction worth knowing: a torn boot flings grease outward as the axle spins, and that grease can land on the inboard side of the front brake rotor and pad, contaminating the friction surface and causing a pull or a grabby/spongy pedal — a cheap CV boot problem that turns into a brake job if it sits unnoticed.

  • Control arm bushings

    Wear-based, no fixed Nissan mileage. Generic guidance is 70,000–120,000 miles under normal use, dropping to roughly 50,000–80,000 in a harsher climate or on rough roads — and it's age-linked as much as mileage-linked, since rubber bushings dry out and crack even on a low-mileage car after 8–10 years. On this generation specifically, owner and shop reports document bushing failures as early as roughly 47,000 miles, so don't assume a low-mileage car is automatically fine. The interaction that trips people up: worn control-arm bushings let the wheel shift under load even right after a fresh alignment, so an alignment that 'won't hold' — or a car that wanders and needs re-aligning again a few thousand miles later — is often a bushing problem being misdiagnosed as an alignment problem. Most modern control arms don't sell the bushing separately, so in practice this is a full control-arm-assembly replacement, usually done in pairs, with an alignment required afterward.

    Calendar-based, not mileage-based — a battery on a car driven 3,000 miles a year and one driven 15,000 miles a year both age out around the same 3–5-year window, since heat cycling and time (not miles) break it down. Standing guidance: start load-testing around year 3, and replace proactively by year 5 regardless of mileage or how the car seems to be starting — same logic as an oil change, replace it before it strands you, don't wait for a no-start on a cold morning. When shopping for the replacement, match the correct BCI group size and cold-cranking-amp rating for this generation — Group 35, roughly 590–640 CCA on gas 2.5L cars (see the Battery entry in the parts cross-reference); the wrong group physically won't seat right in the tray or undersizes cranking power in cold weather. One claim to be careful with: there's a persistent rumor that big-box retailers (Costco is the one people usually ask about) get a lower-tier SKU of the same battery brand than an independent shop stocks.
