    Not a fixed manufacturer mileage item — it's event-triggered plus a periodic check. GM's own 2023 owner's manual is explicit about the trigger: "Anytime unusual wear is noticed, rotate the tires as soon as possible... If the unusual wear continues after the rotation, check the wheel alignment." Get one after ANY of: new tires mounted, any front suspension or steering part replaced (control arm, bushing, ball joint, tie rod), or a hard pothole/curb hit — skipping the alignment after that work wastes part of the money just spent, because a misaligned wheel scrubs a fresh tire unevenly within a few thousand miles. Absent a trigger event, a periodic check roughly every 12,000–15,000 mi or once a year is cheap insurance, especially on a truck that tows or sees gravel/washboard roads regularly.     GM's factory interval is every 22,500 mi or 2 years, whichever comes first — and this is one of the few items where GM's own Normal and Severe maintenance tables are IDENTICAL: no distinct severe-condition number is published, so per the severe-duty-default policy the honest move is to use the single published figure rather than invent a shorter one. GM's footnote does say more frequent replacement may be needed in heavy traffic, poor air quality, high dust, or if you notice reduced airflow, window fogging, or odors — so treat 22,500 mi as the ceiling, not a guarantee, under real severe use. Same interval across every gas and diesel engine in this generation; it's an HVAC-box part, not an engine-specific one.

    Wear-based, not a GM factory mileage — the owner's manual only calls for a brake-system visual check at every 7,500-mi rotation, no replacement interval. A half-ton truck is heavier than a passenger car and this generation's trims routinely tow, so front pads commonly need their first replacement in the 40,000–60,000 mi range under mixed city/highway use, sooner if towing or heavy stop-and-go is a regular part of the truck's life — inspect at every rotation rather than assume a number. If this is a 4WD truck, a torn front CV axle boot (see the 60,000-mi item below) can fling grease onto the inboard pad and rotor face and contaminate the friction surface — a second, avoidable reason pads wear or grab unevenly, so a boot check is worth doing at the same visit as a pad inspection.

    This is the clearest severe-schedule-default case on this truck: GM's own Severe table calls for a full ATF-and-filter change at 45,000 mi (and again at 90,000 and 135,000 — this is the first of three occurrences inside the published 150k grid, not a one-time service), while the Normal table has NO scheduled transmission-fluid line at all — GM literally publishes nothing for light-duty use, confirmed independently by owner threads quoting the same manual. Given that GM's own severe-conditions list (heavy city traffic, hilly/mountainous terrain, frequent towing, high-speed or taxi/police/delivery use) covers most ordinary American driving, default to the 45k severe cadence rather than assume 'no schedule' means 'no service needed.' Applies to every automatic transmission in this generation — 6L80 (6-speed, base V6/L82 trucks), 8L90 (8-speed, L84 5.3L and 2.7L turbo), and 10L80 (10-speed, 6.2L, diesel, and most 5.3L trucks after the 2022 refresh) — this truck was never offered with a manual, so every trim gets this item. Use the correct fluid for the transmission code: DEXRON-VI for the 6L80, DEXRON-HP for the 8L90, DEXRON ULV for the 10L80 — using the wrong one is a real mistake, not a minor one.

    GM ties replacement to the electronic Air Filter Life monitor (same concept as the oil-life system) rather than a fixed calendar/mileage number on trucks so equipped — which is every 2019–2024 Silverado. The one fixed number GM does publish is a fallback for trucks without that monitor: 45,000 mi, and — like the cabin filter — this fallback figure is IDENTICAL in both the Normal and Severe tables, so there's no distinct severe number to default to. In practice the monitor accounts for severe use in real time: dusty roads, extended idling, or short cold-weather trips will trigger a 'REPLACE ENGINE AIR FILTER SOON' message well before 45k, so treat that dash message as the real trigger and this mileage as a sanity-check point, not a hard deadline either way.

    No GM factory interval — this isn't in the owner's manual as a separate line item at all, unlike Japanese/German manufacturers that sometimes do call it out. Generic, honest guidance: start checking at 60,000 mi or 5 years old, whichever comes first, and re-check at every tire rotation after that. 4WD trims only — 2WD Silverados have no front axle shafts. The tell is grease flung inside the front wheel well from a torn boot; caught early it's a cheap boot-and-repack job, ignored it lets water and grit into the CV joint and turns into a full axle-shaft replacement, and (see the brake-pad item above) flung grease can also coat and contaminate the front pads and rotor — one neglected boot can create two repair bills instead of one.

  • Spark plugs (2.7L L4 Turbo / L3B only)

    GM's factory schedule — identical in Normal and Severe tables, no distinct severe number published for spark plugs on any engine in this truck — puts 2.7L Turbo spark plug replacement at 60,000 mi, and again at 120,000 mi (GM's table shows two occurrences inside the published 150k grid). That's noticeably shorter than the 97,500-mi figure GM gives the 5.3L/6.2L V8s and 4.3L V6 (see the 97,500-mi bucket) — the turbo four runs higher combustion pressures and uses a different plug (ACDelco 41-106-IP vs. the V8/V6 family's 41-114), so don't apply the V8 number to a 2.7L truck by mistake.

Towing regularly, running an unloaded bed on rough roads (the rear end bounces more empty than loaded), and washboard or gravel driving all shorten shock life faster than smooth-highway commuting. The tell to watch for is tire cupping — a scalloped, uneven wear pattern that looks like an alignment problem but isn't; if the front tires are cupping, check the shocks before paying for another alignment that won't fix it. 75,000–100,000 mi is a reasonable point to start checking for leaking or bounced-off-a-speed-bump-twice softness, not a hard replacement date.

  • Front lower control arm bushings

    $320–$750 Shop job

    No GM factory interval — wear-based, and independent of mileage on top of it: rubber bushings degrade with age even on a low-mileage truck, typically over an 8–10 year span regardless of odometer. Front control-arm bushing and ball-joint wear (clunk over bumps, vague/wandering steering) is a documented owner complaint pattern for the 2019+ T1XX platform specifically — not a factory recall or TSB, but a recognized aftermarket-parts category with real fitment listings, which is a stronger basis than a generic 'bushings wear out' claim. The interaction that matters: worn bushings let the wheel move under load, which means an alignment done on a truck with sloppy bushings won't hold — it can go visibly off again within days. Fix the bushings (or replace the whole control-arm assembly, which is often the shop's default rather than pressing in bushings alone) BEFORE paying for the alignment in the bucket above, not after.

  • Tires (typical first replacement — earlier under towing/off-road use)

    Not a manufacturer-scheduled item, but the largest real cost-to-own line on this truck outside the engine bay. Factory sizes run from 265/65R18 up to 275/50R22 depending on wheel package, with the Trail Boss and ZR2 trims wearing a genuine all-terrain tire from the factory to match their 2-inch lift and off-road-oriented use. Match the replacement to how the truck is actually used, not to what looks tough: a WT/LT/LTZ that stays mostly on pavement does better on a quiet highway all-season or a mild all-terrain — a hard-core off-road all-terrain on a truck that never leaves the road just costs tread life and wet/wintry braking grip for no real benefit. Going the other way, a soft street tire on a truck doing regular towing or gravel-road driving wears fast and can't take the load; if towing or hauling heavy payloads is a regular part of the truck's life, an LT-rated tire (reinforced sidewall, higher load rating) is the right call over a passenger-rated (P-metric) tire, even at a comfort cost. All engines (5.3L, 6.2L, 2.7L turbo, 4.3L V6, and the 3.0L Duramax diesel) specify 50/50 Dex-Cool; don't mix coolant types across a top-off.

This isn't in GM's own maintenance-schedule tables (the manual only lists an unrelated 7-year A/C-desiccant service on the same calendar-based logic) — it's standard automotive-electrical guidance, stated plainly as such rather than dressed up as a factory number. Get the size right: this generation's gas trucks use a BCI Group 48 (H6) AGM battery standard (required for the Auto Stop/Start system); the 3.0L Duramax diesel and some heavy-accessory builds may spec a different group/CCA, so match the label on the truck, not just the model year, and confirm cold-cranking-amp rating meets or beats factory spec — an AGM is generally required where Auto Stop/Start is equipped, a cheaper flooded battery is not a safe swap there. No factory dual-battery or heavy-duty-alternator package is offered on this generation (that setup exists only as an aftermarket add-on, mainly for plow/upfit or heavy accessory use) — stock trims don't need to plan around it.
