Nissan Pathfinder 2013–2016 · Maintenance schedule & cost to maintain

CarCaseFile editorial · filed 06-27-2026 · updated 09-23-2026

Scheduled service only, not the documented problems (those are on the case file's problem list, with their own cost calculator). Every interval and cost range below is sourced, not estimated.

Where the manufacturer publishes separate normal and severe-condition schedules, this ledger defaults to the severe interval and says so. That's not us padding the numbers: a manufacturer's own severe-duty list usually describes ordinary driving, things like short trips, stop-and-go traffic, extended idling, dust or road salt. But the list is written per manufacturer and sometimes per model year, and some are far narrower than others, so each item's "why" text names what this manufacturer actually wrote and gives the normal-schedule number alongside it. Read the item, not this paragraph.

What's due on MY 2013–2016 Nissan Pathfinder right now?

Enter your mileage. We'll check it against this car's full schedule below.

Cumulative cost

What routine maintenance adds up to, by mileage

Running total of the independent-shop cost ranges below. Each bar is everything due by that point, added to everything before it.

3,750 mi or 3 months $195–$246 10,000 mi or 12 months $354–$479 15,000 mi $433–$575 20,000 mi or 24 months $433–$575 30,000 mi $474–$649 60,000 mi $2,801–$3,426 105,000 mi or 7 years $4,818–$6,240 125,000 mi or 15 years $4,818–$6,240 5 years $4,818–$6,240

Solid bar = low estimate, tint = high estimate. This is a routine-maintenance floor, not a total cost of ownership. Fuel, insurance, tires, and any of the documented problems above are separate. Items that recur more than once per interval under a severe-duty schedule (an air filter due every 5k, say) are counted here at one occurrence, not the full repeat total. The real cumulative spend for a high-mileage severe-duty driver runs higher than this chart shows.

3,750 mi or 3 months (2013) / 5,000 mi or 6 months (2014-2016)

  • Engine oil and filter, 3.5L V6 (severe-schedule default)

    $146–$174 DIY-realistic

Nissan's 2013 guide: every 3,750 miles or 3 months on Schedule 1 (severe), 7,500 or 6 months on Schedule 2. The 2014-2016 guides print one interval, 5,000 miles or 6 months, and their severe list adds no oil change. Manuals: 5-1/8 qt with filter, 5W-30 in 2013-2014, 0W-20 with 5W-30 allowed in 2015-2016. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $146-$174.

    On this generation

    • Nissan's severe test is one condition, not two. The 2013 guide says to use Schedule 1 if you primarily drive under any of these: trips under 5 miles (10 in freezing weather), hot stop-and-go traffic or long low-speed driving, dusty, rough, muddy or salt-spread roads, or towing, a camper or a car-top carrier. The 2014-2016 guides use the same list for their extra severe items.
    • Nissan recall 22V-420 covers certain 2013-2016 Pathfinders whose secondary hood latch can stay unlatched after the hood is closed. Dealers replace the bell crank free. Check your VIN before the first oil change you do yourself.
  • Engine oil and filter, Hybrid 2.5L (2014-2015)

    DIY-realistic

The 2014-2016 guides give the Hybrid the same 5,000 miles or 6 months, with no shorter severe oil interval. Nissan's 2014 Hybrid supplement: 0W-20 with 5W-30 allowed, 6-1/8 qt with filter, a quart more than the V6. No 2015 Hybrid manual was found. The oil filter card lists the Hybrid too.

  • Tire rotation

    $49–$72 DIY-realistic

Every 7,500 miles on both schedules in Nissan's 2013 guide. Every 5,000 miles in the 2014-2016 guides. The 2014 manual still prints 7,500, so follow the 2014 guide. The manuals say to leave the spare out of the rotation and to torque the wheel nuts at each rotation. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $49-$72.

10,000 mi or 12 months (2014-2016 severe brake fluid)

  • Brake fluid (severe-schedule default)

    $159–$233 Shop job

Nissan replaces brake fluid on a schedule. Severe: every 10,000 miles or 12 months in the 2014-2016 guides, every 15,000 or 12 months on the 2013 Schedule 1. Normal: every 20,000 or 24 months (2014-2016), 30,000 or 24 months (2013 Schedule 2). Manuals: DOT 3. RepairPal 2013-2016 brake bleed rows: $159-$233.

15,000 mi

  • Cabin air filter

    $79–$96 DIY-realistic

Every 15,000 miles in all four guides on every schedule: or 12 months in the 2013 guide, 18 months in 2014-2016. Nissan adds only that prolonged dusty driving calls for replacing it more often. The cabin filter card covers the V6 and the Hybrid. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $79-$96.

20,000 mi or 24 months (towing and rough-road driveline oils)

  • Rear differential and transfer case oil, AWD (towing or rough-road duty only)

    Shop job

Nissan inspects both at routine services and replaces them only if you tow, use a camper or car-top carrier, or drive rough or muddy roads: every 20,000 miles or 24 months in the 2014-2016 guides, every 30,000 or 24 months in the 2013 guide. Manuals: Nissan hypoid 75W-90 differential oil, GL-5 80W-90 transfer fluid. FWD cars have neither.

30,000 mi

  • Engine air filter, 3.5L V6

    $41–$74 DIY-realistic

Replace every 30,000 miles in all four guides on every schedule (24 months in 2013, 36 months in 2014-2016). Nissan prints no shorter severe interval, only to check or replace it more often in prolonged dusty driving. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $41-$74, not split by engine.

  • Engine air filter, Hybrid 2.5L (2014-2015)

    DIY-realistic

The same 30,000 mile row in the 2014-2016 guides. The supercharged Hybrid engine takes its own filter, not the V6 panel.

  • CVT fluid, Hybrid (every 30,000 miles)

    Shop job

The 2014 guide replaces CVT fluid on the Pathfinder Hybrid at 30,000, 60,000, 90,000, 120,000 and 150,000 miles, on the standard schedule, mileage only. The 2015 and 2016 guides print the same row for Nissan's hybrids. The 2014 Hybrid supplement says to use only Genuine Nissan CVT Fluid NS-3.

60,000 mi

  • CVT fluid, 3.5L V6 (severe-schedule default)

    $171–$199 Shop job

Nissan's 2014-2016 guides replace it every 60,000 miles only if you tow, use a camper or car-top carrier, or drive rough or muddy roads, or when a dealer CONSULT reading passes 210000. Otherwise they only inspect it. The 2013 guide puts the same replace-when-towing note on its transmission fluid rows every 30,000 miles. NS-3 only. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $171-$199.

    On this generation

    • Nissan's CVT test is narrower than its general severe list. Short trips and hot stop-and-go traffic put you on the severe list for brake fluid, not for CVT fluid. The CVT rule names only towing, a camper or car-top carrier, and rough or muddy roads.
    • The 30,000 mile CVT service a dealer offers is Nissan's optional Premium upgrade, which replaces the fluid every 30,000 miles. The guides say you need not do Premium maintenance to keep the warranty.
    • The 2013 guide never names the Pathfinder in its CVT model lists, so a 2013 car falls under its automatic transmission fluid rows, replaced every 30,000 miles when towing. The 60,000 mile CVT rule that names the Pathfinder starts with the 2014 guide.
    • The owner's manuals give no owner check for CVT fluid. They send you to the dealer for checking or replacing it.
  • Drive belt, inspect (no replacement mileage)

    $167–$201 Shop job

Nissan's standard schedule never replaces the belt. The 2014-2016 guides inspect it at 40,000 and every 10,000 after, the 2013 guide from 60,000. Only the optional Premium upgrade replaces it, every 30,000. The V6 and Hybrid belts differ. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $167-$201.

  • Front brake pads (wear-based)

    $403–$460 DIY-realistic

Wear item. The 2014-2016 guides inspect pads and rotors every 10,000 miles, every 5,000 on the severe list. The 2013 guide inspects them every 7,500 on Schedule 1, every 15,000 on Schedule 2. One front pad set fits every 2013-2016 trim and both engines. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $403-$460.

  • Shocks and struts (wear-based)

    $1,415–$1,666 Shop job

No Nissan replacement interval. The guides inspect axle and suspension parts, every 5,000 miles on the 2014-2016 severe list. RepairPal says to replace shocks and struts in pairs and to get a four-wheel alignment after, so budget the alignment with them. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $1,415-$1,666.

  • Wheel alignment (event-triggered)

    $171–$251 Shop job

No mileage in Nissan's book. The manuals say that when excessive tire wear is found, check tire pressure and wheel alignment, and RepairPal calls for a four-wheel alignment after new shocks or struts. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $171-$251.

  • Tires (AWD: match all four)

    Shop job

On AWD cars Nissan's manuals say to use tires of the same type, size, brand, construction and tread pattern on all four wheels. A circumference difference between the axles causes excessive tire wear and can damage the transmission, transfer case and differential gears. The manuals also say to check alignment when wear is excessive.

105,000 mi or 7 years

  • Spark plugs, 3.5L V6

    $443–$749 Shop job

Replace at 105,000 miles on every schedule in all four guides (or 84 months in 2013, 126 months in 2014-2016). Manuals: iridium FXE22HR-11, gap 0.043 in, and do not clean or regap them. The VQ35DE is chain-driven, so there is no timing belt job to pair with it. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $443-$749.

  • Spark plugs, Hybrid 2.5L (2014-2015)

    Shop job

The same 105,000 mile row in the 2014-2016 guides. The 2014 Hybrid supplement lists DILKAR7C9H at 0.035 in, a different plug from the V6. The QR25DER is chain-driven too.

  • Engine coolant

    $455–$529 Shop job

Nissan: factory fill at 105,000 miles or 7 years, then every 75,000 miles or 5 years, on every schedule, with Nissan Long Life blue coolant. No shorter severe interval is printed. Nissan warns that mixing another coolant or using non-distilled water shortens that interval. RepairPal 2013-2016 rows: $455-$529.

    On this generation

    • Nissan's guides say it does not advocate aftermarket flushing systems and strongly advises against using them on a Nissan. Ask for a drain and refill with blue coolant, not a machine flush.
  • Engine mounts (wear-based)

    $1,119–$1,536 Shop job

No Nissan interval. RepairPal's signs: vibration in the cabin with the engine running, and a clunk on shifting into drive or reverse. Left alone, the clunk spreads to bumps and throttle until the mount fails and the engine moves freely. No R52-specific weak mount was found in the sources read. RepairPal rows, one mount: 2013 $1,119-$1,272, 2014-2016 $1,268-$1,536.

125,000 mi or 15 years (Hybrid inverter coolant)

  • Hybrid inverter coolant (2014-2015 Hybrid)

    Shop job

The 2014-2016 guides: the inverter's factory fill is due at 125,000 miles or 15 years, then every 75,000 miles or 5 years, with Nissan Long Life blue coolant. It is a separate loop from the engine coolant.

Sources: Nissan (2014 guide), Nissan (2015 guide), Nissan (2016 guide), Nissan (2014 Hybrid manual)

5 years (any mileage)

  • 12-volt battery, 3.5L V6

    DIY-realistic

Calendar item, not mileage: load-test it from year 3 and plan to replace it by year 5. Nissan's service battery for the V6 is a Group 35 (see the battery card). Match the group size and cold-cranking amps, and compare warranty terms, which differ by seller.

  • 12-volt battery, Hybrid (2014-2015)

    Shop job

The Hybrid's 12-volt battery is not the V6 battery card. Nissan's 2014 Hybrid supplement says to replace it with a battery of the same design, because the wrong one can let hydrogen gas build up in the vehicle.
